I Never Stopped Loving You
Several relationships later,
Countless heartbreaks,
Many of life’s milestones
Celebrated without you,
Through it all, you’ve remained
On my mind, in my heart, tied to my soul.
There were times when I thought
I’d found the one,
The one who’d replace you,
Who’d make me forget
All we had, all you meant to me;
The one with whom I’d become one
And commit to a lifetime together.
Still, I always thought of you,
Somewhere amidst the love
I had for another,
My heart belonged to you.
I wasn’t trying to hold on,
Loving you was just natural,
Like I was brought here to love you,
As if from the day we met
We were destined to be together;
That my heart would
Forever be your home.
Alas, the days have turned
Into months, the months to years,
Miles between us have expanded,
Oceans continue to keep us apart.
I pray for the day to look
Into your eyes again
To hold your beautiful hand,
To cradle in your secure embrace.
I long to again taste those sweet lips
To hear you whisper once more in my ear,
To lay my head on your chest
And drift off to sleep like old times.
From afar, we still
Seem like the right fit
You’re still easy to talk to,
You still listen to me
Rapt with attention,
You still say all the right things,
You still stimulate my mind,
Body and soul, you still get me
And I, you – even from a distance.
Will the magic still spark
When we reunite?
Or is it just bouts of loneliness
Keeping us connected?
Have too many years gone by
For us to make another try?
I know not the answers,
What I do know is that
Across all these miles
Throughout all my joys
Amidst all my heartbreaks,
Broken dreams and goodbyes,
After all these years
I have never stopped loving you.
