Welcome to Island Soul, City Dreams!The Caribbean culture of calypso is riddled with double entendre, storytelling, social commentary, and sheer entertainment. As CaribScribe, I combine these exact elements to chronicle my journey as an island storyteller navigating life in the big city, all while keeping a firm grasp on my West Indian roots.
The Writer Behind the WordsI am a Los Angeles-based multimedia journalist originally from the beautiful island of Barbados. Before moving to the United States to further my education, I spent years on the ground in the Caribbean working across newspaper, radio, and television—specializing in everything from breaking news and public health to entertainment and sports.
My passion for storytelling eventually led me to New York, where I graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from CUNY City College’s media and communications arts program, before earning my Master’s degree in Journalism from Columbia University.
Over the course of my career, I’ve had the privilege of reporting throughout the Caribbean, North America, and the Middle East. My work has been featured in major U.S. and Caribbean media outlets, and I am incredibly honored to have received a special commendation from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for my health reporting.
Off the ClockAbove all, my faith as a believer is the anchor that keeps me grounded through all of life’s transitions. When I’m not chasing a story or typing away at my laptop, you can usually find me nurturing my spirit by listening to reggae, getting lost in a Stephen King novel, or playing a sharp game of chess. Fitness also remains a core pillar of my life; as an NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) with various fitness certifications, I channel my athletic background into running, training, and working out at the gym. I also love cooking up a Caribbean feast, tackling crossword puzzles, and exploring the vibrant city streets with my closest friends.
