The Blog: The Caribbean culture of calypso is riddled with double entendre, storytelling, social commentary and sheer entertainment. CaribScribe combines these elements to chronicle her journey as an island writer living in a big city, while keeping a firm grasp on her West Indian roots.
The Writer: CaribScribe is a New York-based multimedia journalist originally from the beautiful island of Barbados. She worked for several years in newspaper, radio and television specializing in breaking news, health, entertainment and sports before moving to NY to continue her education. A magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of CUNY City College’s media & communications arts program, CaribScribe also holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. CaribScribe has reported from throughout the Caribbean, North America and the Middle East and her work has been featured in major U.S. and Caribbean media outlets. She has received special commendation by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for her work. When not working, she’s usually listening to reggae, reading Stephen King novels, playing chess, cooking, running, doing crosswords or enjoying New York City with her friends.
