Island Soul City Dreams

I love New York, but my heart has a Caribbean beat. It pulsates to the traditions of my people. Attuned to the rhythms of this City, I stay West Indian to the bone. I reflect. I analyze. I speak my mind. ~ I Keep it Irie ~

I Cried Today

I cried today.

Tears of pain.

Not because I wanted to,

But I was overwhelmed.

Like a fountain they burst forth

Blinding me, overcoming me.

I could not help it.

I felt the anguish

Erupting from deep within.

It was like everything pouring out of me,

Yet still so such hurt inside.

Unbearable.

For so long I’ve tried to be brave,

To furnish a smile

When my world’s upside down.

To appear confident when I’m lost.

Always standing,

Won’t dare let anyone see me fall,

‘Cause I know I’m strong

And no one must think otherwise.

But sometimes the slightest wind

Can sway the mightiest tree,

And amidst the storm we’re all vulnerable.

So I cried today,

Because I’m human.

I’m fallible,

And life can sometimes

Bring us to our knees

In agony, in submission, in prayer.

Yes, I cried today

For deliverance,

In faith,

Wailing out His name,

I cried, “Father!”

Hope the valley is not too deep, and you find your way out soon.
